Tech Tip: When was that webpage last modified?
You can make a link which is placed in the Links Bar
or the Favorites Menu so that when you click on and it gives you the date and
time the webpage you are currently at was modified. If you’re a little
bit of a techie, try it – it’s fun and useful).
Follow these steps
and make a handy icon in your Links Bar. (You can do it in your favorites menu,
but it isn't as handy). Then when you visit a site, just click on the icon
and it pops up the date and time the web page was last updated. I do this when
I visit websites to see if the information I am reading is current.
(If you are not using your Links Bar, you should be - it’s about the handiest
thing there is in IE! Click here to read how to get your Links Bar configured
-
http://www.marshalladulteducation.org/techtips/techtip21.htm)
Here are the
steps.
-
Right-click on any link in your Links Bar.
If you don't use your Links Bar (you should!!!), then click on Favorites menu,
and right-click on any link. NOTE: Choose a link you no longer
need because the link you choose will be used for this new "last Modifed" link
we are going to create. Or - you can just replace that original link
back in your Links Bar.
- Click on Properties.
Then click on the Web Document tab.
-
In
the URL: box enter the following: javascript:alert(document.lastModified)
-
Click on the General tab. In the
AA-Date. (That's the name of the link - it will be the first link in the
Links Bar when you sort your links).
-
Click OK.
-
You will get 2 alerts asking you if you want
to keep this target - click on yes.
-
You did it - now try visit a site and click
on the new link you created - you will get the date and time that website was
modified.
