The 5th step in protecting your computer is to prevent access to your computer. If you use a computer that others in your office or home can access when you are not around, then you may want to consider using a password to lock it.
You can create a password that must be typed in when your computer is turned in. To set a password that must be entered at the login screen, go to the Control Panel and open up User Accounts. You can create a new account or change an existing account. Then you can create a password for that account.
Another way to secure your computer after it has been started is to use the option in the screensaver, On resume, use Welcome screen. After your computer goes to your screen saver after the pre-specified number of minutes of inactivity, your password will be required to get back out of the screensaver.
Here is a website that will give you ideas on how to create a better password. http://lastbit.com/pswcalc.asp
