SW ABE - MARSHALL REGION 

1.      August 16 - 20th - Classes during this week will be at the teacher's discretion.  Due to Summer Institute, some classes will be cancelled.  Please advise Carman (Granite Region instructors) and Barb (Marshall Region instructors) of your class plans for this week.  Thanks.

ABESubject: ABE Transitions Conference - Call for Proposals due Aug. 6 Proposals for the ABE Transitions Conference are due this Friday, August 6th!   Barry


We are now seeking presentation proposals for the 4th Annual Minnesota ABE Transitions Conference,

Exploring Pathways to Success, which will be held on September 23-24, 2010 at the Ramada Mall of

America in Bloomington.  We hope that you will consider sharing your ideas and expertise at this statewide

conference.  The Call for Proposals is attached and is also available on the ATLAS website

(www.hamline.edu/atlas).  Proposals may focus on any area of ABE transitions to post-secondary education or

employment, including:  ·         Building transition skills at all levels of instruction·         Career pathways/stackable credentials ·         Bridge programming ·         College/academic readiness ·         Short-term technical training ·         Team teaching ·         Articulation/collaboration between systems (college, workforce, ABE)·         Transition models ·         Collaboration models ·         Soft skills training/incorporating soft skills into the curriculum·         Student support/wraparound services ·         Student internships·         Assessment systems  Presentation proposals are due by August 6, 2010.  You will be notified by August 27, 2010 whether your proposal has been accepted.  We hope that you will consider submitting a proposal, and we look forward to seeing you this fall at the Transitions Conference! The 2010 ABE Transitions Conference Planning Committee Astrid Liden ABE Professional Development Specialist Minnesota Department of Education Adult Basic Education (ABE)________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
MFEC   Subject:  August Marshall Area Financial Empowerment Collaborative (MFEC) Meeting - Thursday, August 19th Bremer Bank  

Attached are the minutes from the July 15, 2010 MFEC meeting.

 

The next MFEC meeting will be held on Thursday, August 19th at Bremer Bank – 208 East College Drive Marshall, MN 56258 beginning at 8:10 AM in the Board Room ( upstairs). Please plan to park in the drive up side (back of the building).

 This ABE training opportunity is being sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Education and the ATLAS program at Hamline University.  CEUs indicating attendance will be provided.

 

Conference Information
a) Keynote speakers:
  • Mary Kay Devine, Director of Workforce Development Policy, Women Employed
  • Jennifer Foster, Senior Director for Adult Education and Family Literacy, Illinois Community College Board
  • Mary Russell, Manager of Leadership Support and Organization Effectiveness, HealthPartners
  • Inez Wildwood, Manager of Workforce Planning and Talent Development, ALLETE
b) The conference will also include a variety of concurrent sessions provided by ABE practitioners from across Minnesota.
c) There will be a limited number of travel scholarships available to those who live more than 50 miles from the conference site--more information coming soon.
